First Deputy Mayor of Economic and Business Policy Austin Beutner arrived at City Hall in January 2010 to spearhead L.A.’s job creation and economic development efforts, one of his first orders of business was to post a sign on the conference room wall with the directive “Get to Yes.” He also opted to forgo a salary and work for $1 per year.
At a roundtable discussion hosted by The Valley Economic Alliance (VEA), Valley Industry and Commerce Association and Valley Economic Development Center on March 25, Beutner spoke openly about his past experience leading successful companies in the private sector and his current efforts to create a culture in Los Angeles that more actively fosters business growth and job creation.
More than 60 Valley business leaders posed questions and exchanged ideas on how to stimulate business, economic growth and public/private partnerships.
VEA President and CEO Ron L. Wood said, “This was the first of many opportunities we have planned to help connect businesses with the resources and leadership of the San Fernando Valley. The Alliance is eager to partner on strategies that will successfully create jobs and attract new industry sectors to our region.”
