Experts to attend ‘Reaching New Heights’ 20th Anniversary Northridge Earthquake Conference and Workshops; Marking two decades of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, hundreds of business professionals from Los Angeles County will attend the Northridge Earthquake Conference and Workshops, Friday, January 17, 2014.

Why you should attend? No part of California is “immune” from earthquakes—in other words, there is no “low-risk” area in California for Earthquakes—there are only areas of lower or higher risk. Learn from experts how to reduce your risk to your business.

Who should attend? Any business that has employees, computer files and an office will benefit from the 5 FREE technical workshops. These business workshops will highlight the latest advances in technology, emergency management, financing, communications, and transportation.

A – Microsoft’s ‘Have you prepared your Technology for the Next Big Quake?’ What are simple steps to take to secure your client records and databases? Technology losses can be the greatest issues when facing a natural disaster. Cloud Computing services and Virtualization can protect yourself, your company and your clients for when disaster strikes.
When: 10:00 – 11:00am

B – Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) How can businesses respond to their own emergencies? Business will learn the immediate steps you can do to protect your employees and your company from a natural disaster? Learn how to establish your own business disaster plan.

Speakers: Christopher Cooper, LA Fire Captain II, Disaster Preparedness Officer and Chris Ipsen, Communications, Emergency Management Department, City of Los Angeles.

C – (LADWP) Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Emergency Outages and Survival Guide. What are the first steps to protect and prepare yourself and your business’ water and electric services in the event of an earthquake or emergency? Learn about LADWP’s role as a first responder in the Northridge Earthquake, and how LADWP has worked to strengthen the reliability of Los Angeles’ water and power distribution systems over the last 20 years.

D – Valley Economic Development Center’s (VEDC) Does your Business have a Disaster Financial Plan? How businesses can better prepare for a catastrophic occurrence and adhere to three (3) practices that are not part of the small business culture, but they should be:

  • Clear separation of personal and business assets
  • Disaster recovery plan
  • Broad base of insurance coverage

The California SBDC and the Seismic Safety Commission will share how prepared California businesses and e-commerce are for a disaster. Best practices from a state wide business survey will be presented by the Seismic Safety Commission.
