Business Permits Made Simple

The California Environmental Protection Agency's Permit Assistance Centers have a simple, direct mission:  to maintain California's high environmental standards while helping businesses with permit and compliance information from all levels of government.   To help, State of California has created an excellent one-stop business permit assistance Web site.

At the bottom of these instructions, which we advise to briefly review, click on the "Enter CalGOLD site now." When you get to the site:

  • Click on "Search CalGOLD for your Business Permits." You'll see a scroll-down menu from which you'll see the list of business types.  Find your business and hit "submit."
  • Next will come up the "Select the County.  The San Fernando Valley is in Los Angeles County, so scroll to Los Angeles and hit "submit."
  • You'll then be asked to select a city.  If you need a business permit in Burbank, Glendale, Calabasas or San Fernando, scroll to that city and hit "submit."  All other communities in the San Fernando Valley are part of the City of Los Angeles, so you should select Los Angeles and hit "submit."

Based on the choices you've made, CalGOLD provides you with a list of required business permits.  The page displaying your results indicates contact information for each of the agencies identified, including telephone, address, e-mail and Web links when available.

Enter the CalGOLD "Business Permits Made Simple" Web site.
